Chat Export

Learn how to export your message history from specific rooms. With the chat export function, you safely retrieve all your messages, attachments, and important data onto your computer. This is how you do it step by step.

Step-by-step: here is how you export your chat

  1. Open the desired room or chat
    Go to the conversation whose history you want to keep.
  2. Open room info
    Click on the information icon info icon in the top right corner of the window.
  3. Start export
    Select Chat export from the dropdown menu.
  4. Choose file format
    • HTML → Preserves formatting, emojis and links
    • Plain text → No formatting or media
    • JSON → Contains full metadata
  5. Determine scope
    Choose how many messages you want to include (see explanation below).
  6. Choose whether to export attachments
    Check the Add attachments box to keep images, videos and documents in the file.
  7. Set file size
    Default is set to 100 MB. Adjust this if you are exporting many attachments.
  8. Download file
    Click Save. The export is generated and download starts automatically.
  9. Save file
    Choose a location on your computer where you can find it easily.
